Baja California Sur and its treasures

Every place you visit keeps a story behind its walls, beneath the streets, and in its traditions and customs. The history of Baja California Sur will amaze you, as you discover the cultural heritage.

Museums are the perfect plan to know more about specific moments or events. We recommend the Museum of Natural History, located in Cabo San Lucas. Through anthropological, geological and archeological exhibitions, you will discover relevant information about the place. The best part? You will see a woman’s skeleton of an antique native group called Pericúes that use to live in the area. This museum opens its doors from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., so don’t forget to check it out!

If traveling to the north of Los Cabos is your plan, make sure to visit El Triunfo, a historic mining village. In this place, there is a tour in the Ruta de Plata museum, where you will discover more about the most important industry of the town: mining. The interactive exhibitions with short films, timelines, and digital albums will show you the historic events of the region. The museum is open from Wednesday to Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and tickets cost $100 MXN (some discounts are applied). Also, on Saturday and Sunday, you can visit Toggle Wine Cellar where you can enjoy a glass of wine with artisanal cheese, oysters or a light snack.

Looking for a unique experience to learn more about Baja California Sur? Grand Velas Los Cabos offers a tour in Sierra La Laguna, specifically through the canyon of San Pedro. There, you will have the opportunity to see the essence of the place with endemic species, ancient rock formations, flora and fauna, and more. After the journey, you will enjoy a dining experience with tlayudas, fresh oysters, grilled stuffed clams, and barbecued beef. Sounds like a perfect plan, right? Well, the best part comes with the sunset, as you will see a one-of-a-kind rock mapping light show: under the moonlight, the nature around you and the archeological symbols, are a looking glass into Los Cabos’ history. It is an experience you cannot miss!

Given that history is also reflected in contemporary art, the talent of sculptors is a different way to explore the secrets of the place. In San José del Cabo, we recommend you to visit Corsica: Art gallery. The exhibitions show the work of 50 contemporary Mexican artists. The forms, colors, and textures evoke endless emotions. You can visit the gallery from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
