The Most Expensive Tequila in the World will be Opened for the First Time in Los Cabos

The exclusive destination of Los Cabos was recently under the gourmand limelight around the world after the announcement of “The World’s Most Expensive Taco” created by Executive Chef at Grand Velas Los Cabos Juan Licerio Alcalá. This culinary experience of $25K USD, which is perfectly paired with $3.5 million USD “Ley del Diamante” edition of Tequila Ley .925; but why is it the most expensive tequila in the world?

The Hacienda La Capilla distillery in Jalisco is the mastermind behind Ley .925 brand, founded in 1996; a 42%-alcohol premium extra-aged made of 100% select agave.   

Tequila “Ley .925”

To give such a representative beverage the importance and value it deserves, they crafted an artistic bottle of 3.725 kilos of .925 pure platinum and 4100 diamonds for an incredible total of 328.59 carats; the bottle is named: “Ley del Diamante”. From design to completion, it took ten months to make involving the work of 17 Mexican artisans and artists (3 ceramists, and 10 jewelers for the platinum covering and 4 diamond mounters) and the total weight is close to 18 pounds. The tequila itself is extra aged, a unique blend of 3, 6 and 9 year old, white oak barrels, 100% agave , 42% alcohol (84 proof), from the company’s own Los Altos de Jalisco Plantations, where the best Tequilas in the world are made.

The bottle contains 1.345 liters of Ley .925 tequila, which will be transported in a private jet to Los Cabos and escorted with high security to the resort Grand Velas, where it will be exhibited and opened for the first time.

The distillery owner defines the bottle as “a jewel enveloping another jewel: the tequila “.

  • The bottle has been exhibited around the world, in cities including Berlin, Hong Kong, Madrid, London, Moscow and Paris.
  • The design is inspired by the art piece “Gran Pasión Azteca” by Alejandro Gomez Oropeza.
  • The designer is José Dávalos Mejía.
  • The bottle holds a Guinness World Record.
  • It weighs approximately 8 kilograms or 18 pounds, 10 ounces.
